Cabernet sauvignon.

Cabernet sauvignon at Deakin Estate's Wingara site.

I am a research scientist at CSIRO Plant Industry working on grapevine physiology, primarily around water use. Prior to this I worked as a post-doctoral fellow at RSBS, part of the Australian National University, for five years. During this time I was studying the interaction between elevated CO2 and phosphorus availabilty on nitrogen fixation in legumes. Before coming to Australia I was a post-doc at the University of York for three years, investigating the effects of temperature and shading on root demography and respiration. My PhD, completed in 1997 at the Nottingham Trent University, examined post-harvest physiology of potatoes.

I have recently been involved with a GWRDC project to help growers withstand drought conditions, providing a module on vine physiology and effects of high temperature events. There is a summary sheet, presentation and video available at the Water and Vine website.

This site gives an overview of my research to date and a look at my personal interests. You can navigate using the menu above. The "Downloads" section gives you access to copies of published papers and my thesis.
